Fairfield County, located in the bustling southwestern corner of Connecticut, is often referred to as the "Gold Coast". This is because Fairfield County is the wealthiest region in our nation's wealthiest state. Much of the popularity of Fairfield County derives from it's proximity to New York City, only a short commute away. Many major businesses such as GE, GTE, and Xerox are also located here. Fairfield County covers 627 square miles and 23 towns and cities The eastern part is often called the "Gateway to New England," while the western part of the county makes up the Housatonic Valley. Fairfield County has wonderful open space and a clean, safe environment, making it a favorite for most home buyers. Fairfield County provides some of the best private and public schools in the nation, making it especially attractive for those with children.

PROXIMITY
Fairfield County provides close proximity and easy access to the New York Metropolitan area while providing a real sense of community. The Metro-North Railroad [800-METRO-INFO] provides reliable, frequent service directly from most of Fairfield County into Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal. Amtrak [800-USA-RAIL] provides convenient high speed train service from Stamford and Bridgeport to major USA cities. Bridgeport has a deep water port and a ferry to Long Island; Norwalk and Stamford have shallow-draft terminals. Combined with its New England charm, many urban influences and its low taxes, Fairfield County has become not only the foremost Manhattan commuter’s location, but the premier location for many of the country’s most prominent companies.

CLIMATE

The climate in Fairfield County is less rugged than in most other areas of New England and Connecticut. This is especially true for the towns along the Long Island Sound. The County’s many large lakes and rivers, as well as the Sound, provide many wonderful recreational opportunities. The Sound, itself is an extraordinary place to sail. It is also very clean. The commercial shell fishers have returned to the Fairfield County shore in large numbers. Beautiful springs, summers and falls allow residents to enjoy a great variety of outdoor activities. Swimming, fishing, boating, horseback riding or just plain sun bathing on the many beaches are very popular activities.
